S19 E18 – Another Brick in the Wall

Here’s a small miracle for you: nineteen seasons in, and Murdoch Mysteries is still this much fun. Another Brick in the Wall is a confident, cornucopian episode – stuffed to the brim with a compelling mystery, whimsical humour, personal drama, a cast member in peril, and more costume glory than a theatre wardrobe department on opening night. And yet, for all that abundance, it never feels overstuffed.

S19 E17 – The Hunting Lodge

It’s another busman’s holiday for a Murdoch Mysteries character in this thrilling take on the iconic Agatha Christie novel And Then There Were None. Much like the novel, The Hunting Lodge features a wonderful ensemble cast trapped in a remote location, dying one by one in a tense, suspenseful plot that combines elements of a murder mystery, psychological thriller, and slasher. But unlike in the novel, the victims’ guilt here is far more ambiguous – and even the titular detective comes dangerously close to making a fatal error.

S19 E16 – The Panic in High Park

The Panic in High Park feels like a good old-fashioned Murdoch Mysteries episode, with a contemporary debate transplanted to 1913 Toronto, a good murder mystery sporting a nice set of plausible if somewhat cartoonish suspects, a cool invention, some physical comedy, and the main characters all true to form. Also, poor Henry.
